Statue of Duke of Pomerania Svatopluk II the Great
The monument of Świętopełk II the Great, a medieval Pomeranian duke, was unveiled in August 2010 to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the St. Dominic's Fair. The sculpture, designed by local artist Wawrzyniec Samp, was cast in Pleszew at the initiative of the Kashubian-Pomeranian Association. Standing 2.8 meters tall, the monument depicts Świętopełk in full armor: wearing a helmet, cloak, and holding a shield, sword, and a spear pointed towards the sky. On the shield, which he holds in one hand, is an inverted anchor, a symbol that once appeared on his ducal seal. In the other hand, Świętopełk holds the city charter of Gdańsk, referring to his role in granting the city Lübeck law in 1263. Due to his determination in the fight against the Teutonic Order, this duke became one of the most renowned rulers of medieval Pomerania.
