Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Gdańsk
Initially, the church was a small chapel located next to the Catholic hospital. Both the chapel and the hospital received funding from various foundations, and one of the founders was Felicita Tietz – a passionate advocate for the construction of the hospital and chapel. On August 26, 1857, a cornerstone brought from the Roman catacombs was laid, and the construction work was carried out according to the design by Juliusz August Licht. Although initially serving as a hospital chapel, the temple also attracted Catholics from the Lower Town for worship. In 1894 and 1911, due to the increasing number of believers, the small chapel was expanded with a perpendicular nave, resulting in the formation of a church. Despite the transformations, the original character of the building was successfully preserved.
