Name of the building comes from the lions originally located on przedprożu building. In the 19th century, after the great transformation of Gdansk is calculated, to widen the space for the ever increasing traffic, abolished the old fortifications and beautiful strangeness of Gdansk - porches. Lions were transferred to the column entrance portal building.

A house designed by Hans Kramer in 1569, at the request of the family Schwartzwald. The house organized meetings of scholars and artists, and wrote widely in the history of Gdansk, in 1636 lived here Polish king Wladyslaw IV. Currently, since 1984 find here Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Gdansk.
