For the ultimate creation Sobieszewska Island contributed human intervention in hydrographic system of the Vistula in order to solve the perennial flooding problems in Żuławy. The work was carried out in the years 1889-1895 during which artificial canal dug ditch called the Vistula River, between kilometer foot and Mikoszewo, section 7.1 km long. The waters of the Vistula headed out to sea a new trail March 31, 1895 year. This hydro project commemorated the centenary of the small memorial is set to the Świbno, the banks of the Vistula River ferry crossing.
