The gate was built in 1361 as the southern flank walls Danzig and former shipyard sites. In the sixteenth century began piling shafts bastion surrounded by a moat, in the years 1623-1638 from the south over the bastions of the type designed by Kameliusza staroholenderskiego van den Bosch, the tower lost its military significance.In the years 1570-1575 the architect Paulus van der Horne rebuilt the tower, increasing the roof, the town prison for especially dangerous criminals.Today the building is established conservation services, delivered for this purpose in 1975.
